Notes and files get a proper home.

Folders that follow Apple's rules, a formatting bar made of Apple's own glass, and files that can live inside a project.

While the beta was catching its breath, the part of Neeos where you write and keep things got a week of attention.

Formatting that looks like it belongs

The bar of formatting buttons above the keyboard in Notes is now built from Apple's own glass material rather than my drawn imitation of it. It's cleaner, it doesn't wrap its labels awkwardly, and it sits a little higher above the keyboard so your thumb doesn't hit two things at once. On wider screens it gets the larger version iPad users expect. One small fix I like: the Bold button now means “you bolded this” rather than “these letters happen to look heavy”, so headings no longer light it up.

Folders the Apple way

Folders in Notes now use Apple's own navigation instead of a custom one, which means the back gestures and the way screens slide behave exactly like the apps you already know.

Files in projects

You can now put a file into a project on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The file is sealed on your device before it goes anywhere.

The vault gets a color

The Vault used to look a lot like Notes, which made them easy to confuse. It's now ocean blue, so you know where you are.

The build carrying this, number 412, reached the external testers on September 23rd. None of it is a headline. It's the work of making each screen feel like Apple built it.

Written October 21, 2026 from the build log, and dated to when this happened.
