The search is by meaning, not words — so you can ask the kind of question a keyword search cannot even be asked, and get an answer drawn from a document you forgot you had.

Four steps, and only one of them is yours.
You add something — upload a document or write a note (dragging in folders and importing Apple Notes come with the Mac app). Neeos extracts the text.
A model running on your own device turns that text into a representation of its meaning. This happens while Neeos is open — it picks up where it left off, so nothing is lost or done twice if you close it partway.
When you ask a question, the same model finds the passages closest in meaning — not only the ones that share words with your question.
Those passages go to a model along with your question, the recent conversation and a short profile of who you are — never your whole library — and come back as an answer with the sources attached.
The more you put in, the more it can answer. That isn't a slogan; it's the mechanism. Six months in, your Neeos is materially different from a new one — because nobody else has your corpus.

The fourth step isn't always an answer — Neeos can act on what it reads. Ask for a note and a new one lands in Notes, built from the document it found, and the answer shows you which document that was.

Indexing is automatic while Neeos is open. Settings shows you what is still queued. Scanned-only PDFs and Word, Excel or PowerPoint files are stored but not yet searchable by their contents.

Contractor meeting, Tuesday — the quote came in at $18,400, about $2,000 over the number we set in March. The overage is the island counter; everything else held.

The material Neeos is built from is exactly the material you wouldn't hand to a general-purpose chat box. That is why the handling is the way it is:
Neeos reads your documents, your notes and your history, and answers from them. Your data is indexed by a model that runs on your own device, and is never used to train anything. When you ask a question, what's relevant to it — and a short profile of who you are — is sent to a model. Never your whole library.
The full technical detail — the model that builds the index, exactly what leaves at answer time, and what this architecture is not — is written up for people who will check.
The first day is the worst day.
An empty Neeos is worse than a chat box — the index is only worth what's in it. So the first thing you'll do is put something real in: upload a document, or write a note — importing Apple Notes and dragging in whole folders arrive with the Mac app. From there, it compounds. Every document you add makes the next answer better.
What's coming, honestly labeled.
Two tiers, and the difference matters: the first is real code being actively worked on. The second is intentions — and we'd rather label those plainly than let you find out the hard way.

Most of these run in my own builds today. Unless a card says otherwise, none of them is in the app yet, and I'm not giving dates. Glances and Neeos Briefing have moved up to Inside the app.
A wall between work and the rest of your life.
A switch at the top of the drawer flips the whole app between Personal and Work. The assistant in one is not handed the other's chats, notes, documents, tasks or memories.

Long-press a reply and Neeos lists the notes, documents, memories, chats and web pages it used, and lets you mark one “not relevant”. Answers already carry their sources; this is the fuller list.
Ask about your week.
Chat can read your calendar to answer “am I free Thursday afternoon?” and suggest meeting times around what is already booked. The events it finds are sent to the model to answer, like anything else in a question. Two calendar features are already in the app: adding an event, which opens Apple's own new-event screen, filled in, so nothing is added until you tap Add; and Neeos Briefing, which reads event titles, times and places to write your Briefing, with your permission in iOS.

Letting a live voice conversation read back and revise a note it just made. The server side runs for me; the phone side is not in a build yet.
Where your material gets in.
The Mac app is the iPad app brought to the Mac. It runs on my own Macs today. It is not in the app yet, and I won't promise a date.
Ask it something with no connection at all.
On iPhones and iPads that support Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device model already answers from the notes on your phone when there is no connection, and declines what it can't ground. Doing more of the everyday work on the device, online too, is being built now.
Planned — or, being honest, vaporware for now
Real intentions, nothing you can use today. When one of these ships, it moves up a tier on this page:
- Apple Pencil — handwriting and markup in Notes and vault documents
- Adding to the vault with no connection at all
- Atlas, the money side, back inside Neeos. It was built, and it is switched off here: nothing connects to it or reads from it today. Money questions answer from documents you've uploaded, like a statement PDF.
- Photograph a document straight into the vault
- Index folders on your Mac without uploading a byte
- Obsidian, Day One and Notion importers
- Search as its own screen, reachable from everywhere
- Recording a meeting in the Work space, with a transcript and action items
- Connecting your own tools to the Work space
- An Apple Watch app
- Private Cloud Compute — nothing is built, and it depends on an approval from Apple we have not confirmed. No date.
