"Before you start": what leaves your phone.

The first thing Neeos now shows is a plain screen saying exactly what is sent to whom. Writing it, I caught a sentence that was false.

Before you use Neeos's AI, you now get a short screen that says, in ordinary words, what happens to what you type. I wrote it on September 28th, and I want to say what it says and how I almost got it wrong.

What it says

To answer you, Neeos sends your messages, a short profile of you, and the parts of your notes needed to answer to two AI companies. Voice recordings go to one of them. Neeos does not sell your data or train AI on it. If you tap Not now, the app stays fully usable with the AI turned off, and you can switch it on or off later in Settings.

The sentence I got wrong

An early draft said your search index is “never sent”. I caught on the 29th that this was false. The index is uploaded, in sealed form, so it can work across your devices. I changed it to say it's never sent as a whole, and that's the version in the app. A consent screen with one false reassurance in it is worse than no consent screen.

Photos lose their location

Separately, photos and movies now have their embedded location data removed before they're uploaded, and Location came off the list of data types we declare to Apple. Said carefully: we remove embedded location from your photos before upload. That's not a claim that we never know where you are.

I tried to use the plainest words I could, and I've left out words like “private AI” that sound better than they are. If you read it and something seems off, tell me.

Written October 21, 2026 from the build log, and dated to when this happened.
